The scourge of online buyer’s remorse has hit all of us at some point. You’ve at least seen the funny stories about online purchases gone wrong. You can laugh it off if it’s a $5 nonessential item. When it comes to something big like furniture, though, you need to be sure.

So how do you avoid making a mistake and ending up on a viral listicle? Use these tips to find the best furniture on Amazon.

Tips for Finding the Best Furniture on Amazon

With no store closing times or limited time sales, you can take your time to shop for furniture online. Your only barrier to a great purchase is knowing what to look for. Here’s your guide:

1. Sort by Customer Rating from the Get-Go

By default, Amazon sorts your search results by the items they want to feature. With that setting, it’s easy to get caught up in your search and get excited about a design without realizing there may be better value options, like an adjustable bed.

Instead, in the top right of your results, set the “sort by” field to “Avg. Customer Review.” You can still use the filters to narrow your search by color, size, and more.

2. Look for Items You Know You Like

Let’s say you were at a furniture store and you found a couch you loved. Alas, it didn’t fit your budget. Instead of chalking it up to a loss, search for the item on Amazon. You might find the same product or a similar one for a far lower price.

3. Don’t Forget About the Shipping Dimensions

It’s an avoidable mistake but countless online shoppers have bought something only to find that the package didn’t fit through their door. With furniture like dining room sets, they could come assembled or they may need your assembly. Rather than assuming an item will be packaged conveniently, look for the shipping dimensions to be sure.

4. Go Beyond the Rating and Read the Reviews

Instead of taking a product’s star rating a face value, scroll down and read the product reviews. There are several reasons why this is important.

First, it will help you spot fake reviews. Second, it will warn you about issues with the product. For example, let’s say people are rating an item at 4.8 stars, which looks great. As you read the reviews, you find out the item’s color is a bit different than described. To others that might not be an issue, but if you’re trying to match a specific color, it could be a deal-breaker.

5. Check the Item’s Reviews on Other Sites

Amazon’s trying to crack down on fake reviews, but their system isn’t perfect. For an extra safeguard try looking for the product on other sites and checking its ratings elsewhere. If there’s a big difference between Amazon’s rating and other sites, it’s a red flag.

All the Convenience, Less of the Risk

Online shopping has its pros and cons in every situation. At the end of the day, though, you can cut out most of those cons by knowing how to make sure you’re getting a good product. When it comes to finding the best furniture on Amazon, that’s key.
